Preamble

The CDHA Code of Ethics sets out the ethical principles and responsibilities which apply to all members of the dental hygiene profession across all practice areas including clinical care, education, research, administration and any other role related to the profession of dental hygiene.

CDHA(Canada Dental Hygienists Association) Code of Ethics는 clinical care, 교육, 리서치 분야와 치위생 전문직과 연관된 다른 역할을 포함한 모든 업무 영역에 도덕적 기본 원칙과 책임감을 규정한다.

　

The Code of Ethics serves to:

1. Articulate the ethical principles and responsibilities by which dental hygienists are guided and under which they are accountable;

1. 치과위생사들을 가이드 해주는 도덕적 원칙과 책임감이 잘 맞물리도록 하고 이런 원칙 하에서 일할 책임감이 있다;

2. Provide a professional resource for education, reflection, self-evaluation, and peer review within dental hygiene and the broader health care community;

2. 교육, 심사숙고, 자기평가, 치과위생사들 간의 동료평가, 더 넓은 헬스 케어 공동체를 위한 직업윤리;

3. Inform the public about the ethical principles and responsibilities of the dental hygiene profession.

3. 전문 치과위생사들의 도덕적 원칙과 책무를 대중에게 알리기 위해;

Dental hygienists use the Code of Ethics in conjunction with professional standards, workplace policies, and laws and regulations that guide practices and behaviours. In achieving these requirements, they fulfill their contract with society to meet a high standard of ethical practice.

치과위생사들은 Code of Ethics를 직업적 기준, 작업장 처리방침, 법과 규칙을 함께 연계하여 이것을 진료와 진료에 관련된 행동들을 가이드 하는데 사용한다. 이런 요건들을 성취하기 위해서는, 그들의 도덕적 실행의 높은 기준치에 부합되기 위해 사회와 맺은 협약을 충족시킨다.

　

Ethical Principles

The `Principles' depict the broad ideals to which dental hygienists aspire and which guide their practice. The `Responsibilities' outlined on the following pages are more precise and provide direction for behaviours in ethical situations.

`원칙'은 치과위생사들의 어떤 열망을 포괄적 개념으로 서술하고 이것이 그들의 업무를 가이드 한다. 다음 페이지에 약술된 `책무'는 좀 더 명확하게 도덕적 결정이 필요한 상황에서 대처 행동들의 지침을 제공한다.

1. Principle : Beneficence

Beneficence involves caring about and acting to promote the good of another. Dental hygienists use their knowledge and skills to assist clients to achieve and maintain optimal oral health and overall wellbeing, and to promote fair and reasonable access to quality oral health services as an integral part of the healthcare system.

1. 원칙 : 선행

선행은 남을 배려하고 다른 사람에게 좋은 영향을 행하는 것을 포함한다.

치과위생사는 환자가 최적의 구강건강과 전반적인 웰빙을 이루도록 공정성을 장려하고 건강관리 시스템에서 없어서는 안 될 중요한 부분으로 구강건강 서비스의 합리적인 접근이 가능하도록 치과위생사의 지식과 기술을 환자를 돕기 위해 사용한다.

2. Principle : Autonomy

Autonomy pertains to the right to make one's own choices. By communicating relevant information openly and truthfully, dental hygienists assist clients to make informed choices and to participate actively in achieving and maintaining their optimal oral health.

2. 원칙 : 자율성

자율성은 자기 자신이 선택할 수 있는 권리에 관련한 것이다.

공개적으로 정직하게 관련 정보를 소통하는 것으로 치과위생사들은 환자가 현재 자기 구강 상태를 알고 선택할 수 있도록 배려하고, 환자가 자신의 최적의 구강 건강 상태 추구하고 유지함에 있어 본인이 적극적으로 참여할 수 있도록 도와준다.

3. Principle : Integrity

Integrity relates to consistency of actions, values, methods, expectations, and outcomes. It includes the promotion of fairness and social justice with consideration for those clients more vulnerable. It conveys a sense of wholeness and strength, and doing what is right with honesty and truthfulness.

3. 원칙 : 고결, 정직

고결은 행동, 가치, 방법, 예상, 그리고 결과들의 일관성과 관련이 있다.

이것은 공정성의 증진, 환자들이 사회적으로 좀 더 취약한 존재라고 고려한 사회정의이다. 이것은 전체성과 능력 그리고 정직성과 진실성을 가지고 어떤 것이 맞는 행동인지를 알고 행하는 것이다.

4. Principle : Accountability

Accountability pertains to taking responsibility for one's actions and omissions in light of relevant principles, standards, laws, and regulations. It includes the potential to self evaluate and be evaluated. It involves practising competently and accepting responsibility for behaviours and decisions in the professional context.

4. 원칙 : 책임, 책무

책임은 자신의 행동이 연관된 원칙, 기준, 법, 규제에 비추어 자신이 행하는 일에 대해 태만한가에 대한 책임을 지는 것이다. 이것은 잠재적 자기 평가와 남에게 평가 되어지는 것을 포함한다. 이것은 능숙하게 일해야 하고 직무를 수행하는 상황에서의 결정과 행동들에 본인의 책임이 있다고 인정하는 것을 포함한다.

5. Principle : Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the duty to hold secret any information acquired in the professional relationship. Dental hygienists respect a client's privacy and hold in confidence information disclosed to them except in certain narrowly defined exceptions.

5. 원칙 : 비밀유지

비밀유지는 직업적인 관계에서 얻어진 비밀을 유지하는 의무이다.

치과위생사들은 환자의 사생활을 존중하고 어떤 아주 특별한 예외상황을 제외하고는 비밀 정보를 유지한다.

　

Comment.

캐나다에서는 치과위생사의 직업윤리에 관한 교육을 매우 중요하게 생각합니다. 그래서 국가시험에 치과위생사의 직업윤리에 관한 문제가 나오기도 하고, 면허시험 합격자 전원에 해당 주의 협회가 나서 치과위생사의 윤리교육을 최종적으로 다시 받게 합니다. 이것은 치과위생사로 활동하게 되면서 여러 작업 환경에서의 딜레마에 처했을 경우, 어떻게 행동하면 되는지에 대한 일종의 가이드라인입니다. 치과위생사의 업무 영역이 조금 더 세분화되고 책임이 따르게 되면서 직업윤리 교육에 관한 중요성이 좀 더 필요한 시기라고 생각합니다.
