치과위생사(미국)이면서 RDH magazine의 편집장인 Cynthia Mckane－Wagester는 2002년도에 출판한 저서 Dental Hygiene:the Pulse of the Practice에서 단 한번의 치과위생약속(Hygiene appt.)을 통하여 유능한 치과위생사가 성공적으로 환자(고객)의 요구사항을 해결해 주고 구강건강 향상을 위한 인식변화 및 참여를 이끌어낼 수 있음을 하나의 시나리오를 통하여 소개하고 있다. 본 코너에서는 이 시나리오 안에서 이루어지는 치과위생사와 환자(고객) 및 치과의사와의 대화와 그에 대한 설명을 해석하여 원본내용과 함께 치과영어회화 형식으로 회원들에게 소개하고자 한다.
Holly:I can understand that. I have a daughter and I always want to make sure that she gets the best medical and dental care available anywhere.
Holly:무슨 말씀이신지 이해해요. 저에게도 딸이 하나 있는데 가능한 어디에서나 가장 좋은 전신건강과 치과관리를 잘 받을 수 있도록 항상 확인합니다.
Mrs. Jones:So you know how I feel.
Mrs. Jones:그러니 제의 마음을 이해하시겠죠.
Holly:You bet. Let me ask you something else. I see on your patient assessment form you filled in the section about smoking. I noticed when I examining your teeth that you have a little discoloration here and there, a little yellowing. You have a really lovely smile, you know, and I wonder if you ever considered having your teeth professionally whitened?

Mrs. Jones:Well, I think about it now and then, but it's probably too expensive and if so, I have a lot of other expenses right now. I know the insurance people won't cover that one.
Mrs. Jones:글쎄요. 가끔씩 생각을 해 보긴 하지만 그것은 아마도 너무 비쌀 것이고 그렇다면 요즘형편으로는 다른 곳에 덜어갈 비용이 많아서요. 그것은 보험에 포함되지 않는 걸로 저는 알고 있어요.
Holly:You're right about the insurance people, but the procedure is probably a lot less expensive than you think. There are actually two programs we offer out patients, in home or in office. Here's a little album we keep on whitening programs that were done in out office. It's just a set of before and after pictures you might want to look at. (holly hands Mrs. Jones the album). When I come back with the x<&23927>rays and the information on bruxism for you, I'll bring you some other material on our whitening programs and let you see what they involve. I'll give you a cost on both too so you can compare the information and decide which program would be best for you. Let me to get the x-rays now.

Holly leaves the room, leaving mrs. Mrs. Jones places the brochures in her lap and looks at the album. The Holly returns to the operatory with the x-rays, the brochure on bruxism, and an office fact sheet on whitening.
치과위생사 Holly가 진료실을 나간다. Mrs. Jones씨는 무릎 위에 소책자를 놓고 앨범을 본다. Holly가 방사선사진, 이갈이에 대한 소책자 및 치아미백에 대한 치과용 fact Sheet 가지고 진료실로 돌아왔다.
Holly:Well, here we are. I see you've been checking out little our before and after album. What do you think?
Holly:자, 돌아왔습니다. 치아미백과정의 전과 후가 실린 저희 작은 앨범을 보고 계셨네요. 어떻게 생각하세요?
Mrs. Jones:What a difference! I saw before teeth there that looked a lot worse than mine and the change was really something. Are these pictures real?
Mrs. Jones:많이 다르네요? 치아미백 프로그램과정 전의 치아는 저의 치아 보다 더 심하게 착색된 것으로 보였는데 치아미백과정 후의 변화는 정말 크네요. 이 사진들이 진짜인가요?
Holly:Oh yes. These are actual patients who had the treatments under out care. We have letters from some of them after the treatment. I'm very proud of our whitening program, because we always want our patient to feel their best and look their best too. When Dr. Gentletouch comes to examine you, I'll let him know that you are interested in a whitening treatment and he'll be happy to talk with you about this too.
